This decade, Steven Spielberg has been quietly prolific, especially during awards season. War Horse, Lincoln, and Bridge of Spies may not be the cultural touchpoints we became accustomed to during the 80’s, but they remain relevant, important and lasting. Before releasing Ready Player One, Spielberg is once again reuniting with Tom Hanks, who leads an ensemble cast for what is sure to be a critical darling in the early months of 2018.
Looking at the cast and the plot of this movie, I like to pretend that a studio exec simply filled in a mad-lib for an Oscar-nominated movie, handed it to a screenwriter and green-lit the picture.
