After literally a decade of frustratingly never being able to meet my favorite author, Timothy Zahn, I now had the chance to meet him three different times in a span of less than three months. The first two handshakes came this summer, at San Diego Comic Con for a fantastic interview then a quick follow back home to the Thrawn: Alliances launch event at Interabang Books. As detailed then, I hoisted a huge box of books and toys to the store, waiting patiently at the end of the line (and a riveting Q&A) for him to sign our collection.
Luckily, I had saved (read: forgotten) a few key pieces of this collection during this signing opportunity and, when Order 66 Toys in Allen, Texas announced that he was coming back to the metroplex to celebrate their eighth anniversary, I knew this was my chance to remedy the situation.
(A quick aside about Order 66: the first time I stepped in the store, it literally took my breath away. My first introduction to them came in a very well-placed ad in Marvel’s most recent Star Wars #1, which led me to a quiet store in Downtown McKinney. Since then, their store has moved and grown rapidly, with their social presence and clout among collectors bringing some great attention to the D/FW community. I was happy to take Jason along to see the store for the first time and was pleased to see his reaction was very similar to . Definitely make the trek to Allen and check them out … prepared to spend a couple hours and a few hard-earned dollars.)
However, while unpacking from this third stop of the Zahn tour, I found a couple books I still hadn’t yet gotten signed (trust me, I have way too many Star Wars books to keep track of). So I’ll be on the lookout for a fourth appearance.
