After bringing us 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie (and fresh off the Han Solo movie set, getting the boot from our benevolent overlord Kathleen Kennedy), Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bring us their take on another tangentially-Disney-related property with the first trailer for an animated Spider-Man movie.
Guys. This is going to be so great. The visual style looks refreshing, bringing us our first look at a very new Spider-Man. Miles Morales (the iteration of Spider-Man from Earth 1610 making his big screen debut) is such a fresh take on the character and I’m excited to see how audiences respond to him. While this movie will live separately from Tom Holland’s current stint in the MCU, just the very idea that we’re going into the Spider-Verse, with multiple people and creatures wearing the red and black mask, is very cool to see for a life-long fan of the wallcrawler.
The only downside? We’ll have to wait a full year for Mr. Morales (voiced by Dope‘s Shameik Moore), with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, arriving in theaters December 14, 2018.
